Accessible

Completed in 2022 as a part of an artists collective exhibition on 'artifacts' entitled 'The Manufactured Exhibition', and later featured in HOME's Manchester Open 2024 Exhibition. 'Accessible' depicts assistive objects that I have used in my time as chronically ill and disabled young adult.

My relationship with assistive aids are complex, for many years I felt reluctant to use them, anticipating the odd looks or invasive questioning that may come from people who don't yet understand dynamic disability, the disapproval of those who think using them is not necessary or even harmful. These experiences still sit in the back of my mind when I use an aid in public, yet my personal feelings towards these objects couldn't be more different. There is beauty and strength in my aides, how they prevent pain, conserve energy, and enable me to interact with the world. The intention for this project is to proudly display these assistive objects and showcase their simple beauty.
