Young writers is an editorial programme available for writers and photographers under the age of twenty-five, the programme as two categories ‘A young person reviews…’ where the writer shares their opinions on photobooks and exhibitions, and ‘A story behind a photograph’ which invites the writer to discuss their own photographs. The articles have a 500-word count and a four-week deadline to write once commissioned, and each writer receives £40 per article in addition to reimbursement for books costs or exhibition tickets. This is a great opportunity for young photographers looking to get into editorial work such as photojournalism/journalism or photo-editor which requires publication or journalism experience. The articles are also promoted in digital newsletters, the photographer’s gallery website, and their twitter account which makes for great exposure especially if you are writing about your own body of work.
