Finding work in the photography industry can be hard when first starting out, most creative jobs aren’t advertised on websites such as Indeed and hearing about job opportunities largely depends on knowing other people in the industry. Social media can be a great tool for creatives to use to find work both by attracting potential clients with posts of your work and following the accounts of other creatives who may advertise work. The Instagram page @assisting_work is perfect for people entering the industry who might not have those networking connections yet, assisting_work advertises creative jobs available in fashion, beauty, and media through the Instagram story feature. Employers or collaborators post the advertisement onto their own Instagram story, tagging @assisting_work and following the guideline to include whether a job is paid, the start date, a description of the opportunity, location, and contact. Assisting_work then re-posts the advertisement onto their account which has 33.4k followers. Opportunities seen promoted on the account include TV show runners, graphic designers, photographer, studio assistant, editors, stylist, MUA, and more, covering unpaid collaborative portfolio work, paid jobs, or unpaid expenses covered.
